Our Minister for Local Government
Hon G M (John) Castrilli MLAMinister for Local Government; Heritage; Citizenship and Multicultural Interests; Member for Bunbury. In February 2005 Mr Castrilli was elected as the Member for Bunbury and was re-elected in September 2008. Prior to his election as Member for Bunbury, Mr Castrilli gained extensive experience in local government. An integral part of his proud history of service to the South West community was eight years spent as Mayor of the City of Bunbury and six years as a Councillor. He was Shadow Minister for Local Government; South West; Commerce and Trade; Employment Protection and Multicultural Interests during his Parliamentary career. Through these combined experiences, he has acquired in-depth knowledge of the challenges facing local governments in this State. Mr Castrilli was also a founding member of the Bunbury Wellington Economic Alliance and a member of the Forest Products Commission, Bunbury Chamber of Commerce, Leschenault Business Enterprise Centre, Edith Cowan University Advisory Board and the South West Development Commission Board. Furthermore, he was a Commissioner of the Multicultural and Ethnic Affairs Commission. Mr Castrilli’s professional background is in commerce and trade. He is a qualified accountant and was a former Director of a Bunbury finance firm and has extensive experience in banking and trade facilitation. He worked in the accounting departments for a range of industries including the media, banking and transport, local government and for State Government trade facilitation. On a personal level, Mr Castrilli is a committed family man.
