Local Government Amendment Act 2004
Local Government Amendment Act 2004 - Overview
The Local Government Amendment Act 2004 and various regulations were brought into operation in the Government Gazette of March 31, 2005. Elections matters included in the Act were proclaimed in January 2005. The Amendment Act represented the first comprehensive set of amendments to the Local Government Act 1995.

One of the main objectives of the review of the Act was to remove any inefficient or impractical provisions which were of concern to local governments since the Act came into operation. The review identified a number of areas where the Act needed to be tightened up and Government policies implemented.
