Rating of Land Used for Charitable Purposes

In December 2004, the then Minister for Local Government and Regional Development, the Hon Ljiljanna Ravlich MLC, requested that the Local Government Advisory Board (the Board) examine and report on the operation of Section 6.26 (2) (g) of the Local Government Act 1995 which relates to the rating of land used for charitable purposes. This report is provided below.

The Board completed its investigation and provided its report to the Minister in November 2005. The Minister considered the report and in August 2006 sought stakeholder comment on a strategy to progress the recommendations made by the Board. The Minister's strategy is provided below.

Following the receipt of extensive comment from local governments and the community, the Department of Local Government and Regional Development is finalising a report containing recommendations to progress the issue. This report will be sent to the Minister for Local Government, the Minister, for her consideration.
