Getting into Local GovernmentWhoever you are, whatever your age, whether you have little work experience or a lot, whether you have many qualifications or a few, there are jobs in local government for everyone.

Recruiting Young PeopleLocal government needs young, talented employees who are willing to learn about local government and aspire to be industry leaders. Recent focus has been on areas such as environmental health, town planning and community development which have sparked a renewed interest in local government careers, however there are so many possibilities in many areas – see the careers profile for more information. Recruiting Women into Local Government Local government recognises the important role women play in the local government sector. Women are under represented in the local government sector, particularly in management and decision making positions. There are several programs available which aim to encourage and assist women to seek employment and progress their careers in the WA local government sector. These include a mentoring program to support and promote the careers of women in the sector.
