Local Government Support and Development
The Department provides advice and support to local government elected members and officers on the operation of the Local Government Act (and Regulations) 1995, which assists local governments to function efficiently and effectively. It also conducts programs, such as the Council Advice Program, CEO Support Program, Mayors’ and Presidents’ Support Program and Peer Support Program which provide assistance and advice and draw on the experiences of people in the industry to comment on council processes, recommend best practice and provide a mentoring role. Programs such as these are developed and delivered in cooperation with the Western Australian Local Government Association and Local Government Managers Australia (WA). The Department works closely with local governments and other key stakeholders to develop guidelines and procedures to support local government's in their day-to-day operations.
