Indicators of Regional Development
Western Australia's unusual character, where 70% of the people live in the Metropolitan area, and 30% live in the remainder of the very large State, provided an important context for the Indicators of Regional Development. The Metropolitan area forms the benchmark against which the accessibility of services, economic performance and quality of life can be measured. The Department of Local Government and Regional Development managed the production of this Report through a working group, assisted by the nine Regional Development Commissions and a reference group comprised of representatives from agencies with key roles in regional development. The publication provides detailed data and analysis on some 100 indicators of economic, social and environmental development in regional Western Australia. The indicators measure the contributions made to regional development by government, the private sector and communities. A Supplementary Report, updating this information, was also released in 2007 and both links can be found below. Enquiries about the publication should be made to Greg McAuliffe on (08) 9217 1500 or greg.mcauliffe@dlgrd.wa.gov.au. This document can be downloaded as a whole or by individual sections as follows:
